CASSE-TETE COUTURE: A CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN PROCESS FOR MAKING THREE-DIMENSIONAL IMAGES, ARTICLES AND 3D DESIGNS, ON, IN AND THROUGHOUT WEARABLE AND NON-WEARABLE GOODS, INCLUDING GARMENTS, ACCESSORIES, UPHOLSTERY, SIGNAGE AND RESULTING ARTICLES.

Solid coloured fabrics have a uniformity in colour that is continuousthroughout the bounds of thefabric. In order for the human eye to visualize a mark such as an image orpattern, a variation in colourfrom the background against which it lies is required.Traditionally, the way by which images, designs/logos, motifs, and/or patterns(hereinafter"image/pattern") are placed, or incorporated into garments is by way of eitherusing thread, to weavethe image/pattern into a large swatch of fabric, such as with, but not limitedto; embroidery, digitizingimages which are transferred onto large swaths of fabric with various levelsof reactivity to the dyes, ORprinting images on garments using inks and other chemicals. Either of theaforementioned methods toproduce an image/pattern on fabric, either result in the images/patternsappearing within a singularplane of the large swaths of fabric, or confine the three dimensionalimage/pattern to a particular area,as opposed to throughout the garment.The computer-assisted-design software (CAD) that has developed recently toassist designers in creatingnew styles which can be mass-produced using the computerized machinerycurrently available,presuppose that the constituent panels of the garment being designed, will bemade of one piece offabric.The within patent application describes a garment construction process, andresulting articles. Theprocess is for creating three dimensional images, motifs, patterns, designs,and logos onto, and withingarments by way of a combination of; cutting, sewing, and gluing FABRIC(S) ofdifferent colour(s),and/or texture(s) together, individually, or in combination with appliquesmade by the same method,the totality of which are sewn and/or glued together, much like a puzzle ormosaic, to make a compositeimage. The result of the process is to produce high definition, three-dimensional images/patterns onto,and/or integrated throughout the garments.This process, which the inventor/applicant has termed casse-tete couture, isin contrast to the moretraditional methods of incorporating images/patterns onto garments such as theuse threads or dyes toproduce images/patterns that can be visualized in only one plane. And to theextent that patents havebeen awarded for creating images on textiles that have the appearance of beingthree-dimensional,those processes restricted the three dimensional image to a localized area asopposed to the withininvention which treats the entire area of the garment as the bounds for thethree-dimensional image.It's the difference between looking at a picture framed by a border vs. apicture that takes up the entireviewing area. The Casse-tete couturier process can produce three dimensionalimages in garments thathave no border, i.e. the image is continuous and borderless from neck, towrist, to ankle.
