Applications of an additive, an electrode paste, an additive paste, a positive electrode or a negative electrode of a lithium-ion battery and a preparation method therefor and the lithium-ion battery, which relate to the technical field of lithium-ion batteries. The additive is used in the preparation of the positive electrode and/or the negative electrode of the lithium-ion battery, the additive being M(PO₄)_a(HPO₄)_b•cH₂O, M being at least one of an IIA family metal, an IB family metal, an IIB family metal, an IIIB family metal, an IVB family metal, a VIB family metal, a VIIB family metal, a VIII family metal and a VA family metal, a≥0,b≥0, and either of a and b is 0, c0. The additive is used in the preparation of the positive electrode and/or the negative electrode of the lithium ion battery, which can significantly improve the safety of the prepared lithium ion battery.
