A system and method for warning against urban water quality which exceeds standards, the system being characterized in that: when on-site water quality of a water quality detection station in a city in which a water quality warning platform resides exceeds standards, the water quality warning platform may send position information of the water quality detection station to a vehicle monitoring platform by means of an Internet of Things; the vehicle monitoring platform calculates a straight-line distance between the position information of every monitored vehicle and the position information of the water quality detection station, and if determined that a target vehicle whose straight-line distance to the position information of the water quality detection station is less than a first specified threshold, the vehicle monitoring platform sends water quality warning information comprising the position information of the water quality detection station whose on-site water quality exceeds standards to the target vehicle by means of the Internet of Things, thereby being able to warn against the water quality which exceeds standards in time, and guaranteeing the water safety of the city.
