A pulse-width modulation (PWM) chop dimming system which uses arithmetic progression modulation, comprising an arithmetic chop signal producing module (1), a metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) tube (Q), a diode (D), an inductor (L), and a module (2) for current consumption produced in a nonlinear PWM chop dimming region, wherein an output terminal of the arithmetic chop signal producing module is connected to the gate of the MOS tube, the source of the MOS tube is grounded by means of a resistor (R), the drain of the MOS tube is connected to the positive electrode of the diode and one end of the inductor respectively, and two ends of the module for current consumption produced in the nonlinear PWM chop dimming region are connected to the negative electrode of the diode and the other end of the inductor respectively. The dimming system has high precision and low flickering.
