Disclosed are a method for preparing a wave-absorbing material, and a wave-absorbing coating. The preparation method comprises the steps of: forming a mixed solution comprising reaction raw materials; subjecting the mixed solution to a liquid phase synthesis reaction; acid-washing a reaction product resulting from the reaction to remove impurities; after removing impurities by means of pickling, cleaning and drying same to obtain a first powder; and subjecting the first powder to a hydrothermal reduction reaction to obtain a second powder, wherein the particles of the first powder and the particles of the second powder are both in the form of flakes, and the second powder is a wave-absorbing material. By means of the method, the purity of the wave-absorbing material can be increased, and the uniformity of the shape and size of the wave-absorbing material can be improved.
