The present invention provides an adaptive signal detection method using an MIMO-OFDM system and a device for the same. According to the present invention, the adaptive signal detection method includes: a step of receiving a signal in a K-QAM method from a transmission terminal having an N_t number of transmission antennas; a step of calculating the size of a pseudo inverse matrix on a transmission channel of the received signal and aligning a channel coefficient included in the transmission channel in accordance with the size of the pseudo inverse matrix; and a step of detecting the N_t number of the received symbols by the QRD-M method based on the aligned channel coefficient. The number (M) of candidate symbols for the QRD-M method is set as K when detecting the first to Tth signal. Also, the received symbol is detected as the number of the candidate symbols is set as P, which is smaller than K when detecting T+1 to Nth signal. The T and P are individually determined by modulation order (K) used by the transmission terminal and the number (N_t) of the transmission antennas. According to the present invention, the adaptive signal detection method reduces the number of candidate groups used for the QRD-M method in accordance with the number of antennas and modulation order. So, the adaptive signal detection method can lower the complexity of signal detection while maintaining performance of the existing QRD-M method. Also, the adaptive signal detection method can be effectively used without reduction of the detection performance in a system requiring low complexity in the MIMO-OFDM system.
