A method and a system for updating a location of a vehicle to protect location privacy of the vehicle are disclosed. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method for updating a location of a vehicle comprises the steps of: receiving a message including a current location and speed information of a proximity vehicle from the proximity vehicle through communication with the proximity vehicle; generating a false location on the proximity vehicle based on the current location, the speed information, and a driving path of the proximity vehicle; transmitting an actual location of the vehicle and the generated false location to a location-based service server; and updating a location by only using location-based service data on the actual location from location-based service data on the actual location and location-based service data for the false location transmitted from the location-based service server.
