The present invention relates to a composition for the prophylaxis and treatment of female menopausal diseases and depression comprising, as an active ingredient, a combination herbal extract of Gugija, licorice, fennel, soybean and grenache. In detail, the combination extract of Gujia, Licorice, Fennel, Soybean, and Pueraria of the present invention strongly suppresses depression as compared with a conventional antidepressant, based on results of antidepressant effects of female menopause in a forced swimming test and a tail suspension test of mice. Therefore, the composition can be used in pharmaceutical compositions and health functional foods useful for prevention and treatment of the female menopausal diseases including depression.
