FIELD: metallurgy.;SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to methods and compositions for inhibiting corrosion of metals, particularly stainless and duplex steels. Corrosion of metal pipelines with compounds of hydrate inhibitors, in particular localized corrosion is reduced, when the composition of the hydrate inhibitor comprises an effective amount of at least one hydroxy acid or equivalent, selected from the group consisting of hydroxy acids having from 2 to 20 carbon atoms and at least one hydroxyl group and at least one ion of an inorganic halide, and also does not contain methanol.
