In a method for operating mobile platforms (10) or robots, the mobile platform or robot is equipped with at least one sensor (12). According to the invention, a correct calibration of the at least one sensor (12) is monitored by additionally using at least two inertial measuring units (13, 14). One of the inertial measuring units (14) is fixed as a reference sensor on the mobile platform (10) or the robot itself. The other inertial measuring unit (13) is fixed to the sensor (12) to be monitored. A test measurement is used to check whether a decalibration of the sensor (12) to be monitored is present.
