The present invention relates to a process for preparing a photochromic material and inorganic, based on zinc oxide doped with tin, comprising the steps consisting in (a) preparing a solution containing at least a zinc salt and at least one salt of tin; (b) mixing the solution prepared in step (a) with a solution containing at least a precipitating agent; (c) is recovered and dried, the precipitate formed during the step (b) and (d) the dried precipitate obtained following step (c) to a calcination. The present invention also relates to the material consisting of zinc oxide (zno) doped with tin (sn) thus obtained, as well as its various uses.
