To provide a firing clay composition that can suppress the formation of cristobalite in firing by effectively utilizing an aluminosilicate waste material.SOLUTION: In a firing clay composition that is modified by adding an aluminosilicate waste material with refractoriness of SK20 or more, the quantity of a specific metal cation in the firing clay composition is controlled by further adding a metal cation source containing the specific metal cation in addition to the specific metal cation in the aluminosilicate waste material, or selecting clay that contains a comparatively large quantity of soluble mineral, and thereby suppressing the formation of cristobalite in firing of the aluminosilicate waste material, and obtaining the firing clay composition with improved refractoriness.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
