To detect a segregation area contained in a steel material cross-section with a high accuracy.SOLUTION: A segregation detection method acquires an image representing a transfer body of an etched steel material cross-section, and specifies a plurality of low brightness areas by a predetermined brightness in the image, calculates an image feature amount of each of the plurality of low brightness areas, creates classification data associated with a determination result of whether each of the plurality of low brightness areas is a segregation area by visual inspection and the image feature amount of each of the plurality of low brightness areas, defines the image feature amount contained in the classification data as an explanatory variable and defines the determination result as an objective variable, classifies whether each of a plurality of unknown low brightness areas is the segregation area by applying a model to the image feature amount of each of the plurality of unknown low brightness areas specified in the unknown image representing a transfer body for analysis after an analysis step of constructing the model of the explanatory variable for classifying the objective variable is completed, and detects each of the segregation areas classified as the segregation area.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
