PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sand-control dam improvement structure and a sand-control dam improvement method superior in workability and economical efficiency, which can be realized without large-scale works such as cutting or raising an existing dam by using steel pipe column members configured as a projecting structure protruding from an existing dam.SOLUTION: Sand-control dam improvement in this invention is achieved by installing a drift-wood-capturing structure on an existing non-permeable sand-control dam 10, in which a drift-wood-capturing member 3 composed by joining crosswise steel pipe column members 1 and steel pipe beam members 2 is connected to connection members 4 protruding upstream from each of sleeves 11 and 11 of the aforesaid sand-control dam 10 so that the drift-wood-capturing member 3 is installed protruding upstream from the aforesaid sand-control dam 10.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
