PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil gallery of a forged steel piston that increases cooling effects, and a method of forming the same.;SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a steel piston 100 with an oil gallery 105, and a process for forming an oil gallery channel 105 of the steel piston 100 which corresponds to the complex shape of a combustion bowl in a piston crown 10. The oil gallery channel 105 is first forged to a basic shape that corresponds to the shape of the walls of the combustion bowl. Machine-turned surfaces in the oil gallery channel 105 can be machine-finished as desired. Surfaces in the oil gallery 105 which cannot be machined with conventional turning operations, such as recesses and protrusions in the channel, are left in the original forged condition.;SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1;COPYRIGHT: (C)2019,JPO&INPIT
