PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic sensor 1 and a card reader 100 with which it is possible to detect the presence of contact terminal 2a of an IC chip even when a card base is metal.;SOLUTION: A card insertion part 50 of a card reader 100 includes a magnetic sensor 1 for detecting the contact terminal 2a of an IC chip. The magnetic sensor 1 includes a detection coil 20 and a first excitation coil 30 and a second excitation coil 40 for generating magnetic fields that are in mutually opposite directions at the position of the detection coil 20. One of the first excitation coil 30 and second excitation coil 40 of the magnetic sensor 1 faces the position where the contact terminal 2a of the IC chip mounted in an IC card 2 passes through and the other is arranged in parallel at the position that faces only the card base of the IC card 2 apart from the contact terminal 2a.;SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1;COPYRIGHT: (C)2019,JPO&INPIT
