To prevent entry of rainwater and groundwater into a handhole, to prevent entry of rainwater and the like from an upper lid exposed on the ground surface and its peripheral edge so as not to accumulate rainwater and the like in a handhole.SOLUTION: A waterproof mechanism 20 is arranged at an entrance 6 of an upper part of a box body 1 of a handhole by which an upper lid 15 is positioned on the ground surface and buried in the ground. The waterproof mechanism 20 includes a middle receiving frame 21 which is supported on an inner peripheral edge of the entrance 6 and has a support receiving surface 23 formed on an inner periphery which gradually narrows as it goes downward, a middle upper lid 26 that closes the entrance 6 in a watertight manner by fitting in the middle receiving frame 21, and a stopper 31 that blocks the swinging of the middle upper lid 26 and locks on the upper surface of the middle receiving lid 21 at the peripheral edge of the middle upper lid 26. The middle upper lid 26 has an outer peripheral edge corresponding to an inclination angle of the support receiving surface 23, and an enclosing groove 27 for sealing an O ring 28 which is brought into close contact with the support receiving surface 23 by elastic action is provided on the outer peripheral edge. The stopper 31 is bridged between the upper surfaces of the middle upper lid 26 and the middle receiving frame 21 and fixed to the middle upper lid 26.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
