PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool geometrical error identification method capable of clamping a rotary shaft at all indexing command positions to enable measurement so as to highly accurately identify geometrical error at clamping even for the rotary shaft having a clamp mechanism capable of performing the clamping only at discrete positions.SOLUTION: A machine tool geometrical error identification method includes a process to be done for measuring positions in a three dimensional space by indexing a rotary shaft having a clamp mechanism as an operation shaft at indexing command positions, before indexing the operation shaft, comprising: a step S28 for determining whether or not a clamp setting of the operation shaft is a discrete clamp; a step 29 to be done if it is determined to be the discrete clamp, for determining whether or not the indexing command positions allow the clamp mechanism to perform the clamping; and a step 30 to be done if they are determined not to allow the clamping, for changing the indexing command positions to positions allowing the clamp mechanism to perform the clamping so as to be followed by indexing the operation shaft on the basis of the changed indexing command positions.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
