PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mass-produce Itea japonica Oliver containing a rare sugar having a physiologically active effect by plant biotechnology.SOLUTION: The invention provides a cultivation method of Itea japonica Oliver characterized by having a step of performing dormancy breaking treatment to Itea japonica Oliver seeds. The cultivation method of Itea japonica Oliver comprises the steps of: allowing Itea japonica Oliver seeds to sprout; transplanting the sprouted seeds onto a culture medium or compost and cultivating into a seedling with the second to fifth leaves; and cutting the Itea japonica Oliver plant body comprising an apex part or a scapus part from the seedling to transplant onto a rooting medium, and culturing this to allow rooting. Rooting media are various kinds of plant culture media, such as a 1/2 MS culture medium, or a Gamborg B5 (GB5) culture medium.
