A landing door opening device for an elevator, wherein a cord-like tension transmitting body has a connection section connected to a locking device, and also has an operating section disposed within the pit of a hoistway. When the operating section is pulled within the pit, the locking section is unlocked and a landing door moves in the door opening direction. A first direction change member is provided to the landing door at a position below the connection section and conducts the tension transmitting body, which hangs downward from the locking device, in the door opening direction. A second direction change member is disposed within the hoistway at a distance from the first direction change member in the door opening direction, and the second direction change member conducts the tension transmitting body downward.
