PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for treatment of nitrogen-containing compounds-containing water which can perform, in parallel, oxidation treatment of nitrogen in nitrogen-containing compounds in water and reduction treatment of nitrate ions and nitrite ions in water without aeration treatment.SOLUTION: An apparatus for treatment of nitrogen-containing compounds-containing water, comprises: a nitrification reaction tank that stores therein first water containing nitrogen-containing compounds, microorganisms having extracellular electron transfer capability, and carbonate ions and/or bicarbonate ions, and has a first electrode contacting with the first water; and a denitrification reaction tank that stores therein second water containing nitrate ions and/or nitrite ions and denitrifying bacteria, and has a second electrode contacting with the second water. The nitrification reaction tank and the denitrification reaction tank are connected through a partition allowing permeation of protons, and the first electrode and the second electrode are electrically connected to each other.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
