The mounting device (2) has mounting arrangement at the side of a firearm, where a mounting rail (4) is connectable by a clamping element. A clamping force, acting perpendicular to the surface of the two rails, is generated by actuating the clamping element. The clamping element generates a displacement force acting in the axial direction of the two rails by clamping between the firearm-sided base rail (3) and the positively held mounting rail. The clamping element is connected by a clamping screw (10) formed by a clamping bolt.
