Methods for determining the response of acute myeloid leukemia to treatment with farnesyltransferase inhibitors

Combination of tipifarnib and etoposide for use in the treatment of a patient diagnosed with a hematological disorder, in which the use comprises: determining whether an expression ratio of RASGRP1 and APTX, each level computed using the ΔΔCt method, exceeds a threshold of ΔΔCt corresponding to a specified sensitivity or specificity or a maximized sum of sensitivity and specificity in an ROC analysis in a test population; and administer a therapeutically effective amount of tipifarnib and a therapeutically effective amount of etoposide if the ratio exceeds the threshold of ΔΔCt.
