A lighting focusing system for focusing a lighting system of large areas, the lighting system being large areas to illuminate an area to be illuminated, the lighting focusing system comprising: a luminaire (5), the luminaire having a location of mounting and orientation and being configured to generate a light beam along an optical axis; a camera (1) configured to capture an image, the camera (1) being coupled to the luminaire and having a defined relation between a field of view of the camera and the optical axis; a memory (33) configured to store lighting information corresponding to a desired focus location of the luminaire within the area to be illuminated, and the memory being further configured to store feature information comprising an expected location of at least one feature within the area to be illuminated, which is different from the desired focus location; and characterized in that the lighting focusing system further comprises: a processor (31) configured to determine and emit focus evaluation information based on the feature information, the illumination information and the image to allow to determine if the luminaire is correctly focused by analyzing the image to determine the at least one characteristic within the image, determining the position of the characteristic within the image, and analyzing the position of the characteristic within the image using the lighting information and information of the characteristics for determining and issuing focus evaluation information; the focus evaluation information comprising an indicator as to whether the luminaire is correctly focused.
