The purpose of the present invention is to provide a ceramic heater which is for a glow plug and has high resistance to thermal shock. The present invention provides a ceramic heater 10 for a glow plug 1 having a leading end section which is to be inserted into the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, wherein the ceramic heater has a current conducting member 11 and an insulating member 16 covering the current conducting member 11, and the insulating member 16 contains a nano-composite comprising silicon nitride (Si₃N₄) as the parent phase and silicon carbide (SiC) dispersed into the silicon nitride (Si₃N₄) or contains silicon nitride (Si₃N₄) and nano-size titanium oxide (TiO₂).
