The invention relates to a safe, polyvalent, economic and fast system for towing an unpowered aircraft. The towing device comprises: - An arm (110) for fastening to an aircraft with a rotating aerofoil, designed to be fastened perpendicularly to the plane of rotation of the rotating aerofoil; and - a traction arm (120) designed to be connected to a traction cable (130) of the unpowered aircraft, and mounted so as to pivot on the fastening arm (110) about a pitch axis (Y) perpendicular to the fastening arm. The towing device comprises: a first sensor (141), the so-called "pitch" sensor, of the angle of rotation of the traction arm about the pitch axis; and a sensor (143) of the traction force applied between the cable and the traction arm.
