The present invention relates to a MAC address control and management system and method in a software defined networking (SDN) environment. The Mac address control and management system of the present invention when applied to a data center network, L2 equipment itself controls and manages duplicate MAC addresses to increase reliability of MAC address management and enable to reduce the user traffic loss. In addition, the MAC address control and management system according to the present invention is capable of duplicate MAC addresses controlling and managing, even in case of the number of L2 devices increases, with a small amount of control traffic overhead by using an event-based duplicate MAC address confirmation request method.
