According to the present invention, in the method for controlling an LNT to reduce NO_x emission during DPF regeneration and an LNT apparatus, based on an amount of NO_x in the LNT and a vehicle driving condition, the LNT rich mode is additionally performed before entering DPF regeneration. Therefore, the NO_x occluded in the LNT is removed to reduce an amount of NO_x discharged during the DPF regeneration.
