The present invention provides a smart home system using power line communications (PLC), to increase energy management efficiency. According to the present invention, the smart home system using PLC comprises: a PLC module disposed in a plurality of home appliances installed in a house to perform PLC; module insertion type home appliances inserting a common smart home module thereinto, in which the smart home module measures, stores, and externally transmits a power use amount of the home appliances, and controls operation of the home appliances in accordance with a command signal received from the outside; and an IHD unit installed in the house, periodically and storing power usage amount data received from the module insertion type home appliances, transmitting the power usage amount data to a smart home management server installed outside the house, and providing a resident of the house with a user-customized service received from the smart home management server.
