The present invention relates to a novel white clover mottle virus gene comprising nucleotide sequences of SEQ ID NO: 1, a recombinant vector comprising the white clover mottle virus gene, a host cell transformed by the recombinant vector, a composition for diagnosis of the white clover mottle virus and a diagnostic method. Since the use of the white clover mottle virus gene of the present invention enables the diagnosis of infection with white clover mottle virus, the novel white clover mottle virus gene can be used for the prediction of disease outbreak by applying the gene to the monitoring or the investigation of the occurrence of viral diseases in domestic crops or weeds. Especially, the reality of the disease occurring in host plants including the white clover can be clarified, and the gene can contribute to the dissemination and quality improvement of the disease-free host plants including the white clover.
