Disclosed are an integrated control device of a VCU and MCU of a variable message sign (VMS) system and a failure diagnosis method using the same. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the VMS integrated control device comprises: an integrated processor integrating a microcontroller function into a VMS controller function to integrally diagnose a system failure from status information of the system while controlling the VMS system; a power input unit receiving drive power of the system; a VMS display unit displaying information through the VMS system according to control of the integrated processor; a memory storing data for calculation of the integrated processor; and a communication unit transmitting a failure diagnosis result including the status information of the system according to the failure diagnosis of the integrated processor.
