An acoustic attenuator 10 for damping pressure vibrations in an exhaust system of an engine, the acoustic attenuator having a gas inlet 18 and a gas outlet 20 at both ends thereof, and within the body. A gas passage duct 24 disposed between the inlet and the outlet, the body surrounding a first resonator chamber and a second resonator chamber. The body is provided with a common inlet 34 in communication with the first and second resonator chambers 36, 38, wherein the first and second resonator chambers 36, 38 are provided from the common inlet 34. It is arranged to extend toward both ends 25 of the body 16.
