Disclosed is a method of measuring the shape and dimensions of parts of a human body, in which a picture of a flat object of a known shape and size is determined on a series of photographs taken from different perspectives of a part of the human body on each photograph, from which the position and orientation of the camera are determined. On the image the area of a part of a body from a background is separated, and on each frame from the arbitrary body initially including a part of a body of the person, the area of the arbitrary body which does not belong to a projection of a part of a body of the person is gradually cut off. Also disclosed is a method of searching for an image of a flat object of known shape and size, its projection, location and orientation of the camera, during which the position and orientation parameters of the camera are repeatedly randomly sampled and the predicted image of the flat object of known shape and dimensions is compared to the real one, using a pattern consisting of several rows of points along the contour of a flat object of known shape and size, between points of internal and external rows of which a brightness difference is calculated in pairs to calculate a match criterion.
