METHOD FOR OPERATING A SEDIMENT BASIN COMPRISING HYDROCARBONS BY MODELING THE ACCUMULATION OF LAND ORGANIC MATERIAL

- A method for exploiting hydrocarbons within a sedimentary basin, by means of a stratigraphic simulation coupled with a hydrological model and a model of accumulation of terrestrial organic matter. - For at least one time step, using a stratigraphic simulator, we determine the distribution of inorganic sediments within the basin. Then, using a hydrological model, at least one unsaturated zone is delimited within the basin. By means of a model of accumulation of the terrestrial organic matter according to the thickness of the unsaturated zone, the stability of the thickness of the unsaturated zone, and the flow of surface water defined for the step of time considered, one determines less a zone of accumulation of the terrestrial organic matter within the basin and a quantity of terrestrial organic matter accumulated in this zone of accumulation. - Application in particular to oil exploration and exploitation.
