A method for tracking by a radio unit (1), on board a first vehicle (Veh1), an FM audio program identified by its identifier (PI), the vehicle traveling a path (TV) which extends over several coverage areas relating to several transmitters (E1-E15) broadcasting said audio program, the method comprising: a) decoding the information received by the RDS channel of the transmitter being listened to and establishing a first list (L1) alternative frequencies (FA-FF), b) acquire the geo-position (GPV1) of the first vehicle and issue a request to a remote server (4) to receive back a second list (L2) of transmitters relative to the geo-position of the first vehicle, • c) based on the second list and geo-position of the first vehicle, remove the irrelevant transmitters from the first list to obtain a third list (L3), included but narrower than the first list, • f) carry out a test of reception of the candidate transmitters from a restricted list (LR), • g) decide to switch to one of the alternative frequencies of the shortlist, according to a predetermined decision criterion or else repeat the steps a) to f).
