The invention preferably relates to a method for inerting material surfaces, preferably ceramic, metal or plastic surfaces by means of functionalized perfluorinated compounds. The inert surfaces produced or producible thereby have an extremely low surface energy, are resistant to deposits of substances or cells and have a very low coefficient of friction. The invention further relates to practical applications of the inert surfaces.
