To provide a polarizing plate composite having excellent antireflection performance and contrast in a bright place, capable of preventing iridescent unevenness and having an excellent transmittance for light.SOLUTION: The polarizing plate composite includes: an optical laminate that has an optical functional layer on one surface of a light-transmitting substrate (1) having birefringence within the plane thereof and that is to be used by disposing a surface of an image display device; and a polarizing plate that has at least a light-transmitting substrate (2) having birefringence within the plane thereof and a polarizer (2), stacked in this order from a backlight light source side and that is to be used by disposing the backlight light source side of the image display device. The slow axis of the light-transmitting substrate (1) where the refractive index is greater is disposed parallel to the vertical direction of the display screen of the image display device, and polarized light is incident to the light-transmitting substrate (2). The light-transmitting substrate (2) and the polarizer (2) are stacked in such a manner that an angle formed by the fast axis of the light-transmitting substrate (2) where the refractive index is smaller and the transmission axis of the polarizer (2) is 0°±30° or 90°±30°.SELECTED DRAWING: None
