The present invention relates to a method for improving the wear resistance of cemented carbide. This method uses fracture toughness as a selection criterion and uses about 6 to about 15 MPa. The step of selecting a cemented carbide having a fracture toughness of m1 / 2 is included. This method increases the fracture toughness of cemented carbide by applying a sacrificial film to the cemented carbide and by using laser impact peening to create a toughened surface layer, which results in fatigue and It further includes a step of increasing its fracture resistance to stress corrosion cracking. The present invention also relates to a cutting tool or cutting tool insert made of cemented carbide and processed using the method according to the invention.
