The present disclosure provides systems and methods for managing patient data during ophthalmic surgery. The systems and methods include an ophthalmic surgical device operable to receive data from an RFID chip. Data from the RFID chip is transmitted to an RFID read / write module operatively coupled to the ophthalmic surgery system. The processor identifies the RFID chip based on the received data and determines whether the data stored on the RFID chip differs by more than a predetermined percentage from the data received from the surgical microscope. The processor may generate an alert if the data stored on the RFID chip differs from the data received from the surgical microscope by more than a predetermined percentage.
