PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To create and design a form in different format for each case, as well as reduce the number of times a read set value is reset even when recognizing characters entered in an existing form.SOLUTION: Provided is a form design and read setting assist device 5 used in designing a form provided with a field in which characters are entered and in recognizing characters entered in the form, the device including a storage unit for storing the design specification of a form as a format file, and storing analysis data that includes a recommended form design value and a recommended read setting value that are common to forms in general at form design time and form recognition time. The device comprises a design unit for creating a format file on the basis of a form setting value that is set by a user at form design time, and assists with form design by a user for extracting the recommended form design value from analysis data and creating design guidance information, and an analysis unit for creating analysis data on the basis of an operation log consisting of a recognition result at form recognition time and the format file.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
