To provide a method for producing an oxide by a hydrothermal synthesis reaction with efficiency and reliability and provide a hydrothermal synthesis apparatus that has a simplified structure with a small number of movable parts and is capable of producing the oxide with efficiency in large quantities.SOLUTION: A method for synthesizing an oxide by a hydrothermal synthesis method is provided. The method comprises (1) a step of heating an aqueous reaction liquid in which a starting material is dissolved or dispersed in an aqueous medium to 100°C or higher in a sealed chamber, thereby applying pressure into the sealed chamber so that the sealed chamber is under more than atmospheric pressure, and (2) a step of reducing the pressure in the sealed chamber in a range in which the aqueous reaction liquid can be kept at 100°C or higher, thereby boiling the aqueous reaction liquid. A hydrothermal synthesis apparatus capable of implementing the method is also provided.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
