PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a modified medium for culturing aurantiochytrium algae, a method for culturing aurantiochytrium algae in the medium, and a method for producing triglyceride containing an odd-numbered fatty acid as a main component from the culture.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a method for producing a culture medium for cultivating aurantiochytrium algae, the method comprising the steps of: (1) treating a cell extract with strong acid and heating it at 60 to 180°C for 10 to 180 minutes; (2) neutralizing the extract of step (1); and (3) preparing a cell culture medium based on the extract from the step (2). In the method for producing the culture medium, further preferably, a small amount of an untreated cell extract is added to the algae culture medium prepared by addition of the cell extract treated with the strong acid.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
