PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an infrared absorbent that has a good infrared shielding property and can manufacture a film excellent in heat resistance and light resistance; and to provide a composition, film, optical filter, laminate, solid state imaging device, image display apparatus, and infrared sensor.SOLUTION: The present infrared absorbent contains a near-infrared absorption pigment including, in a molecule, at least one selected from an anion site and a cation site, and a metal component including a metal atom selected from Li, Na, K, Cs, Mg, Ca, Ti, Fe, Co, Ni, Pd, Cu, Zn, Si, and Al. The total amount of the metal atom included in the metal component is 0.00001 to 1 parts by mass based on 100 parts by mass of the near-infrared absorption pigment.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
