PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a catalyst for obtaining a specific allyl type unsaturated alcohol at high conversion ratio and selectivity by a mono-molecule dehydration reaction of diol.SOLUTION: A catalyst for manufacturing an unsaturated alcohol using a diol compound as a raw material is manufactured by adding a rare earth metal halide represented by LnX, where X represents one of fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine, n is valency of ion of Ln element, to a catalyst precursor which is a composite oxide represented by the general formula (1)-1: LnZrO(1)-1, where Ln represents a rare earth metal, x represents a value in a range of 0.01x1.00 and σ=valency of ion of the Ln element×x/2, burning them at 700°C or more to prepare composite oxide represented by the general formula (1)-2: LnZrO(1)-2, where Ln represents rare earth metal, y represents a value in a range of -0.05y0.95 and τ=valency of ion of the Ln element×y/2.SELECTED DRAWING: None
