The present invention is directed to an isolated synthetic tripeptide of formula hd-phe-n-methyl-1-val-1-ala-ome (sequence id: 1), or a derivative thereof, and the corresponding lipotripeptides, which are: specific for mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (map) of the s-type strain, as well as derivatives and conjugates thereof.
