improved therapeutic drug monitoring. methods and compositions for antimicrobial agent quantification and functional measurement are disclosed in this document. in one aspect, a method for quantifying antimicrobial agent comprises: obtaining a biological sample from a patient receiving an antimicrobial agent; incubate the biological sample with a microbial reference strain and a fluorophorus to detect cell damage; measure a first signal of fluorescent intensity in the biological sample incubated using flow cytometry; and comparing the first signal to a calibration curve previously generated for the antimicrobial agent, thus quantifying the antimicrobial agent present in the biological sample.
