a fiber optic spectroscopic sensor that includes a sensitive optical fiber, a probe light source, a power source, a detection medium, a signal processing medium, and a signal display medium. the fiber optic sensor has a sensitive coating made with either a fluorescent indicator or an absorption based indicator. the fiber is optically affected by the presence of at least one measurement parameter. the probe light source, adjacent to the fiber optic sensor, illuminates the fiber side. the probe light is modified by the sensitive coating, coupled to the fiber optic sensor core as a light signal and guided towards the detection medium located at one end of the optical fiber. the detection medium converts the light intensity into an electrical signal and transmits it towards the signal processing medium, in which the electrical signal is correlated with the measurement parameter. the correlated quantity is then transmitted and displayed on the signal display medium.
