The invention provides isolated strains of microorganisms Lactobacillus buchneri BioCC 203 DSM 32650 and Lactobacillus buchneri BioCC 228 DSM 32651 and their use as microbiological food additives. The strains are used to provide aerobic stability in feed with a low dry matter content (20%) and to improve fermentation of the feed to increase the concentration of lactic and acetic acids in the feed and to lower the pH level, thus reducing the loss of nutrients in the feed. The use of microorganisms in the ensiling process suppresses the action of pathogenic microorganisms (enteropathogenic) and yeast in the feed. The strains can be used to extend the shelf life of feed made from fresh, difficult to ferment material.
