Large scale building with natural ventilation

Sheds which are used for large scale storage can have a problem of the air quality in the shed which can be solved by wind blowing through and out of the shed, however, this can introduce problems in very high winds. The livestock shed 1 has parallel rows of stanchions 4,6 rising from a concrete base 2 and a metal roof 3 and which is built in two halves 14,16 which are separated by a central air gap 30. Each roof half 14,16 has an inclined centre strip defining one half of the gap 30 edge. The roof portion 3 is substantially concave from above and increasing in height from the perimeter region to the central region, and the roof sections are supported by curved steel beams spanning between the ridge portion and the perimeter region. The resulting shed 1 is of correspondingly low profile while still exerting good ventilation. In capped versions the gap 30 is surmounted by a convex roof cap 32 spaced above the gap 30 in order to allow ventilation while excluding precipitation. The ventilation inside the shed is enhanced by the curvature of the concave roof and its curved steel beams.
