Provided are a rotary hearth furnace (1) in which it is possible to adjust the position of the point at which exhaust gas diverges so as to be near the border between a heating section and a non-heating section while limiting the volume of gas drawn into the furnace, and a method for producing reduced iron. The rotary hearth furnace (1) is equipped with: a furnace body (2) that encloses a ring-shaped space (2a); a furnace bed (3) that forms the bottom of the ring-shaped space (2a) and is rotatable in a rotation direction (R); an exhaust part (7) that discharges exhaust gas generated within the ring-shaped space (2a) to outside the furnace body (2); an introduction part (9); and a flow adjustment part (10). The introduction part (9) is disposed upstream from the exhaust part (7) in the rotation direction (R) and introduces pressure-adjusting gas into a non-heating zone (Z2) of the ring-shaped space (2a). The flow adjustment part (10) is disposed between the introduction part (9) and the exhaust part (7) and adjusts the How of gas by adjusting the area of an opening in the non-heating zone (Z2).
